| Very good, but a few niggles | Overall, I'm very pleased with mine. The sound quality is remarkably good, the digital radio tuning is much less fiddly than a dial, and the overall package is neat and compact.
However, it's let down by the control buttons. The radio tuning buttons double as CD buttons, which is fine in principle, but these are a little small and a little stiff. I'm sure it wouldn't have cost much more to make them a little bigger and easier to use ... and while they are at it, the LCD display could have been bigger and more detailed.
The most annoying thing, though, is the smallest: the switch which selects between radio, CD and off. Not only is it small, it's a strange ship which makes it hard to grip, and it's stiff to turn. The volume knob is great, and it's a pit this switch was designed as intelligently.
However, those are all niggles. Overall, this is compact and elegant unit which avoids looking too fashion-driven, and it feels solidly made without being too heavy. I'm very impressed with the sound quality, and despite my niggles about the controls, I don't regret my choice. It's just a pity that it comes so close to being a perfect compact portable stereo, without quite getting there. | Written on 11 May 2007 | |
