| why why why?? | | Ok first of all the greatest football game I ever played was Sensible Soccer 95/96 on the Amiga, the upgrade version for season 96/97 was just as good and I still have these games up until now. The gameplay in these games is much better then anything that's ever been produced since, Pro Evolution Soccer, Fifa, none of them can compare. I think the problem with this game being so bad is they have obviously changed the game, but the point is they didn't need to, why not keep the original, re-release it with season 2006/2007, so we would have new players, i would love to make a new Sensible Soccer team like I used to and buy players like Ronaldinho and Henry and Kaka. Thats what the fans want, not this, why didn't the developers do what the fans wanted, if they had the game wouldn't have such bad reviews, I have the game but I'm about to sell it back on here for £2-£3, thats all its worth, the old Sensible World of Soccer 95/96 and 96/97 edition for the amiga costs around £50 if you want it now!! And so many would still buy it. Why do think that is developers?, it's because people loved that game and they don't love this, why make such a mess from something so great and why not hire some real SWOS fans to test the game before you release them. If you did then you would have the best selling game on the market, PLEASE re-release Sensible World Of Soccer on the PS2 with Season 2006/2007 players, make it just how it was on the Amiga and watch how well it does. | Written on 23 December 2007 | |
| OH GOD WHAT HAVE THEY DONE | Sensible Soccer was one of the first games I played at a young young age. I loved it's cute little sprites, with players that looked like they were permanently surprised. I love just how quick it was, without ever being overwhelming. It just flowed.
This, however is just... not. It just doesn't have the charm of the original. It feels clunky and it lacks that special spark of the originals.
Such a shame. Such a shame... | Written on 10 October 2006 | |
| So Disappointing, so, so unhappy | | Now I'm one of those who remembers and loved with all enyment SWOS on the Amiga. When I heard they were finally going to create a new Sessible Soccer, I couldn't wait. What a waste of a good game, it puts the game in a very un-natural light, that it does nor belong to. Bring back the Amiga version!!!!!!! | Written on 22 July 2006 | |
| Rubbish | | Having played SWOS on the Amiga. I found this version to be ultra disappointing. | Written on 16 July 2006 | |
| Putting Fun Back Into Footy! | Lets get this game's flaws out of the way first: The sound is very bad. Poor crowd SFX which are far too quiet & no commentary lead to a weak audio atmosphere. There are a few glitches. I haven't experienced the "ball jumping into the keepers hands" glitch that someone else mentioned but the fact that you lose the ball as soon as anyone goes near you is a bit irritating at first. I've also noticed that if you score a goal & then get tackled late by an opposing player, the goal is cancelled & you're given a free kick or penalty, which tend to be hard to score from. The programmers weren't allowed to use player's real names but its very easy to change names & I quite like the way you can call Ronaldo 'Fatboy' & Zidane or Barthez 'Baldy' if you want. Like many modern games Sensi 2006 sometimes feels a bit unfinished. Unfortunately this is a symptom of rushing the game to the shops in time for the World Cup.
A lot of people don't like the cartoon style graphics or the simple control system but Sensi Soccer was always about the gameplay. This game is not a Soccer-sim. Its all about quirky arcade fun. That is the real essence of Sensi 2006 & the reason why I love it. I got tired of the overly complicated direction that Fifa, Pro-evo etc have taken over the years & this offers a real alternative. If you've never played any of the previous games in the Sensible Soccer series, 2006 will be a bit of a shock to you.
In my opinion this captures the original spirit of the Amiga version & adds some welcome updates. The instant replay option is great for re-living curling wonder goals & 'aftertouch' has been taken a step further so you can now make the ball dip as well as curve. Controls are intuative too. The action is often frantic with goalmouth scrabbles & super-fast breaks the norm in every match. I even got used to the 'lose the ball as soon as anyone goes near you' aspect quickly & this pushes you into a game of passing skill & accuracy (I get annoyed with Football games where you can easily make your keeper dribble the length of the pitch, side-stepping every tackle & score). Also, different teams seem to use different tactics: Ivory Coast will play a pacey game with quick, short passes; Poland rely on solid defence; Brazil go for individual skill etc. Penalty Shootouts are a big highlight for me. It takes some skill to score & the good control over your keeper gives a huge sense of satisfaction when you save a scorching shot. Also, Corner kicks offer a golden chance to execute a gorgeous diving header or volley (in the original Sensi & PS1 version, corners were virtually impossible to score from). 1 player mode is a little limited (still extremely enjoyable) & some Club-level players are slow so I tend to stick with International games. However, I'm sure this was designed primarily as a multiplayer game so get your mates round with a few beers & make a World Cup night of it!
Basically, I LOVE IT & say a big thankyou to Jon Hare & Codemasters for keeping the Sensible dream alive. | Written on 12 July 2006 | |
