WARNING! This is not a multi-region player!

I was looking for a reasonably priced dvd player that would player my gathering collection of Region 1 dvd's and stumbled across this player advertised as multi-region. I read the review of Jm Leven and had doubts at first as to whether to purchase this item. So I took a chance hoping that the last reviewers dvd player had a problem and purchased this player. I received the player today and installed it (even though it said on the back of the player that it was Region 2), placed a Region 1 disc in the player and low and behold...the screen came up with a message along the lines of 'the playing of this disc is prohibited'.
So for anyone who is thinking of buying this so-called 'multi-region' dvd player...DON'T!!! THIS IS A REGION 2 ONLY PLAYER!!! If you want a good looking, reasonably priced region 2 player, then buy this...BUT NOT IF YOU WANT A MULTI-REGION PLAYER!!! Very dissapointing!!! I'm now returning this item!!!

region 0 as in plays 0 dvds

Maybe my heading wasn't fair, but that's been my experience so far. At least it's cheap, and hey - we're all so rich now we can just throw these things away and get another one if they don't work. That seems to be the attitude of electronics manufacturers these days. There's no point in buying an expensive dvd player because, no matter the price, it's just your luck if it works at all, or packs up in a few weeks or months. More fool us for continuing to give them money. Even the cheapest 2nd hand vhs player I ever had lasted years and never got stuck - it's nice to be able to navigate disks as quick as dvd enables, and the picture quality is better, but the quality control is a complete p-take.

Anyway, maybe you'll be lucky with your purchase of this device, maybe not. Mine showed the quick start menu, assured me that it was set up, then, when I inserted a disk, showed 'loading' for about 2 minutes, then showed ' this disk cannot be played'. It did this with old, new, region 1, 2 and 4 disks. Maybe it only plays region 0 disks - very useful.

So, obviously, I can't tell you if there are instances of this model which work at all, and if they are genuinely multi-region straight from the box. I have to say that I got the dvp ns36 model, which worked a dream and was multi-region straight from the box. I liked it so much I wanted another one, but there aren't any more on Amazon, so I got this because it was advertised as the replacements. So, you guessed it - I'm trying to get my money back.

Ms

If you want a multiregion buy one that has already been converted. The code for this is impossible to find.
